Crusaders Flyfishing

Flyfishing Club

Stithian Flyfishers is the official flyfishing section of the Old Stithian Association. We are also a member of several nationwide fishing, wildlife and environmental concerns, including FOSAF. We enjoy regular fishing outings – especially for trout and yellowfish. For those interested, there is an excellent website forum called where we have an active little post with quite a few members. We have a successful competitive angling section for those interested. Subscriptions are extremely reasonable and the club is open to all – past/present scholars, Saints family and friends and beginners through to experienced flyfishers. In conjunction with the school, we are working on trying to “naturalise” the school dams into a more pristine environment for all, not just for flyfishers.

The club continues to grow with members coming from both inside and outside the Saints community. The school dam has undergone some changes this year but continues to yield some big barbel, carp, bass and kurper. We have enjoyed several yellowfish trips to the Vaal and we have some exciting plans for next year in conjunction with one of the major trout venues in Mpumalanga. We work closely with the school angling club which is ably controlled by Alan Weakley. Congratulations to those Saints pupils who were selected for the Central Gauteng Junior Flyfishing team. Over the year on the campus, we hold talks, socials and fly tying, including a stand at the Spring Festival. The club meets up at least once a month at Saints for flyfishing and flytying – the new ‘One And All’ which overlooks the dam should prove a scenic venue!  For more information on how to join, please feel free to contact Chris Williams at  All welcome – young and old.
